SUMMARY OF PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bruce Tsuchida is the Founder and President of TOWNSCAPE, INC., a community and environmental planning company that provides services to community organizations, public agencies, and landowners throughout the State of Hawaii.

 

TOWNSCAPE, INC. is an outgrowth and continuation of TOWNSCAPE ASSOCIATES, a planning company that Mr. Tsuchida established in Massachusetts in 1976. Townscape Associates provided land planning and town planning services to New England Cities and Towns and to Native American communities from 1976 to 1984.

 

As President of Townscape, Inc., Mr. Tsuchida is in charge of overall company planning, marketing, quality assurance, management of staff and company resources, interaction with clients and with the community, and management of major planning projects.

Planning Experience: Mr. Tsuchida has served as principal planner or principal in charge of some 200 planning projects in his career, including plans in the following areas:

  • Regional land use plans
  • Regional watershed management plans
  • Mixed use new communities
  • Affordable and workforce housing
  • Natural resources management and restoration
  • Urban waterfront redevelopment
  • Native Hawaiian housing
  • Native Hawaiian cultural learning centers
  • Environmental Assessments and Impact Statements
  • Environmental and Land Use Permits

Education: Harvard University, Graduate School of Design, Department of Landscape Architecture. Studies in regional planning and landscape architecture. Master of Landscape Architecture Degree (MLA) 1971. University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Fine Arts, Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning, 1967-1969. Studies in Kyoto, Japan, 1965-1966: Japanese Language School, Japanese garden design, calligraphy. University of Paris, Faculty of Letters, studies in French literature and philosophy, 1963-1964. Amherst College, 1961-1963 and 1964-1965, B.A. Degree with Honors in English Literature. Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude.
